Self-defense: a desperate escape

The self-defense scenario In this article, I will describe a personal defense situation that happened to me (Kongling) in front of a KTV (a Karaoke club). As I have done previously (read for example Self-defense: brawl in front of a grocery store), I will not go into too much detail (in order to protect the privacy of the involved people). A note by Master Kongling - Writing about this "adventure" (even after so much time), I notice 2 things: the first is that I am not able to correctly descri...

6 Dragons Kung Fu training sessions' structure

What is the structure of a perfect training session? The development of each single Kung Fu skill that makes the perfect practitioner requires, on average, 5 minutes a day. The problem is that the number of the basic, advanced and special capabilities is high and each of them require a constant practice: To be developed (the longest path) To be maintained (Kung Fu de-evolve if it is not fed) To be evolved (there is no limit to improvement) It is for this reason that we ask our students to...

The correct position of the bow / arrow (gong bu)

The correct position of the bow / arrow (gong bu)

What is gong bu? In Kung Fu there are several versions of the "arrow stance" (gong bu, or deng shan bu or mountain stance or mountain climbing stance), the one that we are going to describe has much in common with those of Tai Chi ones but, to avoid confusion (discussions and overlaps), we only correlate it to 6 Dragons Kung Fu. The advantages of this stance are various, both in terms of training, both in terms of struggle: It gives us great stability and balance (rooting, read Kung Fu rootin...

Trapping

What is trapping in martial arts and what is it for? Trapping is a type of interaction widely used in Wing Chun (under the name Phon Sao) and in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do: It consists of "capturing" the adversary through a tactical mobilization of our limbs (not necessarily grabbing him with our hands) It is not only a defensive or evasive action, it can also indeed foreshadow or include attack and counterattack It allows to block, to divert, to unbalance, to move, to dampen, to block, to str...

Chin Na technique: twist the wrist

Chin Na: twist the wrist the twisting of the wrist is a very effective technique but until we understand its principles it will not work as expected. Before starting, it is important to read (we have to know what we are doing and how to train safely): Chin Na Dojo (guan): rules, respect and etiquette A scheme to quickly learn any kind of technique 4 Tips to effectively apply any fighting technique How to execute the technique Let's imagine (didactically) that our opponent has his right h...

Self-defense and mental preparation: what they do not tell you

What risks run those who do not have a solid mental preparation? In a serious self-defense path, mental training starts before the physical one. One of the most important (but undervalued) aspects of self-defense is the psychological preparation for the stress to bear in an unexpected dangerous situation. Martial arts do not teach you how to manage improvise extremely intense emotions / sensations like: Pain Fear Anger Tension Panic Adrenaline Everyone reacts instinctively in a differe...

9 teachings from the movie Batman Begins

Can a Hollywood movie transmit something useful in terms of martial arts? Everything can teach us something, the discriminant is the interpretation we give to what we catch through our senses. A good martial arts practitioner should always be: Openminded enough to catch even the smallest lesson from the most unexpected circumstances Rational and smart enough to understand the difference between what could be possible / useful and what is completely impossible / useless In addition to this h...

5 regeneration practices to recover after training

What to do after training In this article, we want to see 5 types of recovering exercises good both for the beginner both for the expert: they are made to allow us to recover flexibility, energies (etc.) for the next day of training. Important premises: One of the most common mistakes among the novices is to dedicate oneself with commitment and attention only to the training phase, leaving aside the recovery Recovery is as important as the martial practice and plays almost the same role in i...

The Wing Chun dummy

The authentic Wing Chun's wooden dummy A lot of Kung Fu styles adopted wooden dummies to learn to manage a human being's similar shape but one of the most celebrated and effective is for sure the Wing Chun's Muk Yan Jong (or Mu Ren Zhuang). The structure of this fantastic training tool: It is basically a trunk with 3 small arms (same length) and a single central leg The 3 arms are short because they simulate a closed guard position The 4th extension is bent and represents the frontal leg (t...

Difficilmente si può predire cosa succederà domani, si tratta per i più "seri" di ammonimenti o comunque di ipotesi probabili. Se alcuni di questi avessero avuto ragione la terra dovrebbe essere sparita già 100-200 volte
